Ball Bearing Bore and OD Size Chart: ISO 6000, 6200, 6300 Series Reference

A metric deep groove ball bearing is sized as bore (d) × outside diameter (D) × width (B), with the part number itself encoding the series and bore: codes 00 through 03 mean 10, 12, 15, and 17 mm, and codes 04 and above equal the code times 5 mm [S1][S4].

Standardized boundary dimensions let the same ISO part number from SKF, NSK, NTN, FAG, or Timken physically interchange on a given shaft and housing, because all five publish against ISO 15:2017 for radial rolling bearings [S2][S4]. For the broader ball bearing family, this interchangeability is the reason the 6000-series chart is the first table a maintenance or design engineer reaches for.

How the 6000, 6200, and 6300 Series Differ in Cross-Section

The 6000 series (ISO dimension series 10) is the extra-light cross-section: a 6200 part number with a 10 mm bore measures 10 × 30 × 9 mm, while a 6000 with the same 10 mm bore measures only 10 × 26 × 8 mm, so the 6200 carries roughly 17% more dynamic load for the same shaft size [S1][S2].

Step up to the 6300 series (ISO dimension series 03) and the outside diameter grows again while the bore stays put: a 6300 is 10 × 35 × 11 mm versus the 6200's 10 × 30 × 9 mm, and a 6305 (25 mm bore) is 25 × 62 × 17 mm versus the 6205 at 25 × 52 × 15 mm, a 19% wider OD that lets the maker install a larger ball complement and lift dynamic load capacity from 14.8 kN to roughly 23-24 kN [S1][S2].

For a like-for-like bore, the three series stack in cross-section as 6000 < 6200 < 6300, and that ordering is the single most important number a specifier plugs into a housing printout, because the housing bore is set by D, not by d. Related bearing fit and shaft tolerance guidance is published alongside these series tables, since the same d can land in a j6, k6, or loose transition fit depending on whether the application is a precision spindle or a conveyor idler.

Reading the 6200 Series Chart from 10 mm to 50 mm Bore

The 6200 series starts at 6200 (10 × 30 × 9 mm, 5.10 kN dynamic, 22,000 rpm grease limit) and walks up in 2 mm or 5 mm bore increments to 6210 (50 × 90 × 20 mm, 36.5 kN dynamic, 7,000 rpm grease limit), so a single ISO table covers the most common electric-motor and pump frame sizes [S2].

At the 20 mm bore row, the 6204 is 20 × 47 × 14 mm with 12.8 kN dynamic and 6.55 kN static load rating, while the 6304 in the next-larger cross-section is 20 × 52 × 15 mm with 15.9 kN dynamic; the 6204 runs to 15,000 rpm on grease and the 6304 to about 13,000 rpm, illustrating the standard speed-versus-section trade [S2]. The same bore-code logic is used in tapered roller bearing numbering where the last digits of the part number identify the bore in millimetres.

The 6000 (extra-light) series is the default chart for compact housings, small motors, and instrumentation, where minimizing OD is more important than maximizing load capacity. Verified dimensions from manufacturer tables [S1]:

6000 = 10 × 26 × 8 mm, dynamic 3.53 kN / static 1.92 kN, fillet r = 0.5 mm; 6001 = 12 × 28 × 8 mm; 6002 = 15 × 32 × 9 mm; 6003 = 17 × 35 × 10 mm; 6004 = 20 × 42 × 12 mm, dynamic 7.20 kN / static 4.55 kN; 6005 = 25 × 47 × 12 mm; 6006 = 30 × 55 × 13 mm, dynamic 10.10 kN / static 7.25 kN; 6007 = 35 × 62 × 14 mm; 6008 = 40 × 68 × 15 mm, dynamic 12.85 kN / static 9.90 kN; 6009 = 45 × 75 × 16 mm; 6010 = 50 × 80 × 16 mm, dynamic 16.77 kN / static 14.02 kN. Weights range from 19 g at 6000 to 261 g at 6010 [S1].

The 6200 (light) series is the workhorse chart for general electric motors, gearboxes, agricultural equipment, and water pumps, where radial load dominates with moderate axial load in both directions [S2]. Verified dimensions and load ratings [S1][S2]:

6200 = 10 × 30 × 9 mm, 5.10 kN dynamic / 2.36 kN static, 22,000 rpm grease; 6201 = 12 × 32 × 10 mm, 6.82 kN / 3.10 kN, 20,000 rpm; 6202 = 15 × 35 × 11 mm, 7.65 kN / 3.72 kN, 18,000 rpm; 6203 = 17 × 40 × 12 mm, 9.56 kN / 4.75 kN, 17,000 rpm; 6204 = 20 × 47 × 14 mm, 12.80 kN / 6.55 kN, 15,000 rpm; 6205 = 25 × 52 × 15 mm, 14.80 kN / 7.80 kN, 13,000 rpm; 6206 = 30 × 62 × 16 mm, 19.50 kN / 11.20 kN, 11,000 rpm; 6207 = 35 × 72 × 17 mm, 25.70 kN / 15.30 kN, 9,500 rpm; 6208 = 40 × 80 × 18 mm, 32.5 kN / 18.0 kN, 8,500 rpm; 6209 = 45 × 85 × 19 mm, 33.2 kN / 21.6 kN, 7,500 rpm; 6210 = 50 × 90 × 20 mm, 36.5 kN / 24.0 kN, 7,000 rpm [S2].

The 6300 (medium) series is selected when the same shaft diameter has to transmit more torque or handle heavier radial load, at the cost of a wider housing bore and a lower speed ceiling. Verified dimensions [S1][S2]:

6300 = 10 × 35 × 11 mm, 6.22 kN dynamic / 3.58 kN static, 20,000 rpm grease; 6301 = 12 × 37 × 12 mm, 7.45 kN / 4.41 kN, 18,000 rpm; 6302 = 15 × 42 × 13 mm, 8.77 kN / 5.34 kN, 16,000 rpm; 6303 = 17 × 47 × 14 mm, 10.49 kN / 6.47 kN, 15,000 rpm; 6304 = 20 × 52 × 15 mm, 12.25 kN / 7.70 kN, 13,000 rpm; 6305 = 25 × 62 × 17 mm, 15.78 kN / 10.59 kN, 11,000 rpm; 6306 = 30 × 72 × 19 mm, 20.49 kN / 14.12 kN, 9,500 rpm; 6307 = 35 × 80 × 21 mm, 25.70 kN / 18.04 kN, 8,500 rpm; 6308 = 40 × 90 × 23 mm, 31.36 kN / 22.36 kN, 7,500 rpm; 6309 = 45 × 100 × 25 mm, 40.69 kN / 30.40 kN, 6,700 rpm; 6310 = 50 × 110 × 27 mm, 47.55 kN / 35.79 kN, 6,000 rpm [S1][S2]. Compared with the 6200 row at the same bore, a 6305 carries 6.6% more dynamic load at 0.83× the rated speed; a 6308 carries 39% more dynamic load than a 6208 at the same 40 mm bore.

Thin-Section 6700/6800/6900 and Extra-Small 600/617/618 Series

Where axial space is the constraint rather than radial load, the 6700, 6800, and 6900 thin-section series give equal bore and OD ratios to the 6200, 6300, and 6400 series but in a narrower width envelope: a 6800 (10 × 19 × 5 mm) keeps the 10 mm bore of a 6000 but cuts OD from 26 mm to 19 mm and width from 8 mm to 5 mm, which is the standard pick for compact gearheads and instrument-grade mechanisms [S1][S4].

Timken's catalog marks a separate 600, 617, and 618 miniature family going down to 3 mm bore, with maximum OD held to roughly 600 mm across the full deep-groove program and maximum bore to 400 mm, so the size chart is a continuum rather than a series of gaps [S4]. For applications that need an even narrower width with a given OD, the ball spline family uses a similar chart logic but re-purposes the rolling elements for torque transmission along an axis.

Closing Criteria-Based Selection Signals

Pick a 6000 when the housing bore is fixed and tight and the load is light; pick a 6200 when the application is a general-purpose motor, pump, or gearbox in the 10-50 mm bore band; pick a 6300 when the same shaft needs higher radial capacity and the housing can be bored wider; pick a 6800 or 6900 when OD and width are both constrained. The signal to track: cross-reference d, D, and B on the actual vendor table when switching suppliers, because ISO 15:2017 fixes the envelope but not the internal clearance grade, cage material, or fillet radius, so a 6204 from one maker with a C3 clearance can run hotter than a 6204 from another at the same fit [S2][S4][S9].
